I want to know why everyone here is arguing about pot being legal or making you lazy, or this and that. Really? Do you all have nothing better to argue about? Put this into perspective, ponder this for a minute or two.....How about the small children affected? How about the impact it has made in their life? How about the feeling of neglect since it seems the parents have made growing pot and making Meth more important. I think you should all take a step back, realize what really was at stake here. Who cares if they got busted growing some pot. What if when they were cooking meth it exploded their house? Or WORSE; the horrible things that have been breathed or absorbed through their skin. That could cause long term ramifications to the children's health, to say the least. Open your eyes people..... The Police Department didn't waste ONE minute of time, they could have saved 2 young children's lives from being taken from them.

The people who abuse pot and let it take over their lives would find another drug to do so if pot weren't available. I know many hard working, very intelligent, productive members of society who enjoy smoking a little reefer in the comfort of their one homes once in a while -- not every day or even every month -- and who would never consider doing more hardcore drugs. Keeping marijuana illegal really isn't preventing people from using it; it just leads to sad situations like this one. Not to mention all the violent cartels and gangs that sell it. If it were legal it would get rid of a lot of violence, clear up valuable prison space, and ensure better regulation and taxation of the plant. And anyhow, why punish the rest of us, just because some idiots will abuse it? Maybe we should outlaw buffets because some people chronically over eat and raise the insurance rates for the rest of us? How about motorcycles because some riders are reckless and cause accidents? Ban anything that can be misused or is dangerous! Life is about having choices and making our own decisions; not regulating everything, as if the government needs to protect us from ourselves.

I agree with Peanutgallery. I also have been around a long time and have observed the realities of long term moderate to heavy pot use. The only people that I know that have achieved any measure of success in their lives while using pot are those that are so hyperactive that pot just brings them down to normal. Those people are few and far between. For all the rest their quality of life has suffered. Also people who are close to heavy pot smokers have their quality of life lowered as well. Most pot smokers would put the purchase of a bag for themself ahead of shoes for the kid.

Here's and interesting thing: gateway drug –noun any mood-altering drug, as a stimulant or tranquilizer, that does not cause physical dependence but may lead to the use of addictive drugs, as heroin. You may argue that marijuana doesn't necessarily lead to other drugs (but notice the "may" in the definition), and the first part sure fits the bill. So, I'd say its safe to call marijuana a gateway drug.

I really despise people who don't appreciate the police. Seriously, think before you write. Our police do things for you don't even know about, and some of it you probably don't want to know about. So show a little respect to the people who are giving their lives for YOUR protection. The fact is that marijuana does kill people one way or another, and the reason you haven't been effected by it yet is because of your local police. So be thankful and show some respect.

The bigger scoop would be how the grow operation was discovered, be it an informant or the Minnesota Power power bill from grow lights. 400 plants seems to be a rather large commitment to a life of criminal activity. Give them the max!!
