No Ryan, there is a law against 18 year olds drinking though. Sure it would be bogus for him to be charged at this point in time IF he had been drinking prior to walking somewhere, but one would hope he will re-think his actions before picking up another drink in the future.

Unbelieveable! Could he have been at fault? Perhaps after being with friends watching a movie or going to a party and having a drink, at least he was smart enough to walk home instead of driving after drinking. It seems more like wrong place/wrong time. Just because someone is out at 2am doesn't mean they're drunk. I don't drink but sometimes watch movies at friend's and have to come home later. Also, I work afternoon shifts so I am not ready to sleep until past 3am or I am up all day. I am heart sick by the accounts of this accident as I have children attending UMD not much older than Alex. My prayers to him and his poor parents at this time of loss. I also know who Julie is and she is a very sweet girl who has made the worst shoice of her life.

WilliamC- on your question regarding the colleges locations vs student housing, they are often far away because the whiners of this city don't want college kids anywhere near their neighborhoods, thus indirectly causing things like this to happen. Thoughts and prayers to both families' but it truely is too bad this girl couldn't MAN UP and come forward right away. Hopefully someone who knew of her activities prior to this incident will come forward and let authorities know if she had been drinking or not.

There is no law against drinking and walking(if he was even drinking) ,there IS a law against drinking and driving! Regardless of where this young man was or why he was walking is not the issue. Hit and run, if drinking and driving, leaving the scene of an accident, these are against the law! This young lady IS AT FAULT!Pray for all involved.

Susan, I used to walk the streets here in Duluth all the time in the 70's and 80's, during all hours of the morning. I was young and full of energy then. And I was never drunk at those times either. You know what they say about assuming?

She is looking at some LONG time in jail... I would have to bet that because she was not found until Wed that she had been drinking and that is why she made her self unfindable there is now no way to test her. Even if the young man had been drinking as well and she did not see him...if it did not happen because she was drunk then there is NO good reason that she did not stop or call the police. I feel very sorry for the young man, his family/friends...Prayers go out to them.
