Actually DM A. It IS Rolf's and every one else's business what people use for energy, the fuels for that energy are a public resource, and it is legitimate for the feds to have an energy policy.

Rolf, it's none of your business what other peoples energy usage is. Nor is it the federal government's.

The title was pretty misleading. The article didn't really touch on retooling the transportation in this country. If Mr Oberstar really wants a good public rail transportation system then he should convince taxpayers that there is a need for it and that it will be done properly. Adding passenger trains to freight railway tracks is not going to get you a reliable "High Speed" rail system.

These comments are right on target. The energy savings alone will justify the investment in a retooled transport system. Rolling a train to Chicago with a thousand people aboard takes much less energy than lifting and lowering several aircraft five or six miles up. And a fast train to center city will beat the plane on all but the longer trips.
