DM A, I might agree with you but for your main false premise: private industry is NOT doing a good job, not in health care, not in communications. There are small communities all around the country that do not have access to broadband even though they are served by communications companies like Qwest: Qwest is willing to make money from phone service and offer dial up but wont' make the investment because it isn't as profitable with smaller populations, the only way is too have government investment, much like the Rural Electrification program in the 1930's. There is no "stranglehold on our freedoms, that is merely YOUR delusion.
