Article: Do your kids spend enough time outside?

I'm just getting to the age where my friends and I are starting families, or have kids just starting school. I've started to notice that kids DON'T go outside enough, they sit in front of cable TV, the computer, Wii, PS3, etc. When I was growing up, I had no video games. Now, I'm happy about that. We've decided NOT to get them for our son. He also will not have a TV in his room. I actually had a high school friend of mine tell me that I was being mean to my child by NOT giving him a TV for his room. But this person also lets her 2 year old watch TV all day long, and says it's benificial because she learned how to say a few words from a cartoon (she would have learned more if her mother taught her anything) What do kids get out of TV and video games, other than learning how to sit on their butts all day?
