Dan, your are consistently wrong, there is an enormous epidemiological evidence worldwide citing death by SHS, you can deny it till you are blue in the face but it doesn't change the reality. On the other hand there are no known deaths caused directly by THC, the second hand effect is even less likely. Z, you may be right this time.

If I can smoke cigarettes until my lungs are black and crusted over or drink booze until my liver explodes or even gamble away my life savings...why shouldn't I be able to smoke a joint before I go to bed at night? It's a pretty victimless crime--I don't need the government protecting me from myself.

That's interesting, Charles. There isn't a single case of anyone ever dying from exposure to secondhand smoke from a cigarette, either.

Dan H, in the couple thousand years people have been burning this plant there are no records of anyone ever dieing from second hand smoke from cannabis. I am not saying the crude combustion of raw plant matter is a good idea (that is why the one or two hit stuff with higher % THC is better for you) but vaporizing seems to be the best and safest. But there are many ways to ingest cannabis besides smoking it. With as many people that admit using cannabis we really don't have concrete links to any major health issues. I would love to see more testing to see how beneficial or dangerous it really is, but right now there are many impassible road blocks set up by law enforcement to stop those studies. Hopefully now that the American Medical Association has over-turned its previous position on medicinal marijuana we can get it moved from schedule I to a schedule II so universities and scientists can do more studies. The amount of people that admit use may go up once everyone can open the cannabis closet, but I don’t foresee millions of new people picking up a bong. But I am sure there are a few out there like me that would be in less pain and discomfort if it was made legal for personal or medical use. I wish I could choose a cheap natural organic medicine grown by friends instead of a powder in a pill made by a company over-seas that has a main goal of money not my wellbeing. Sorry if I seem skeptical about our wonderful health care here in the states but if you hit a dog on the nose enough he is going to learn to flinch.

But alan g, all that secondhand smoke will kill millions of people. Or doesn't it count when it comes from a joint?

Yes it should and if you do not like it do not smoke it. After all this is America.

Cindy J,
1. The social implications of legalized alcohol are disastrous. More violent crime and abuse is tied to alcohol abuse than any other drug. The U.S. Department of Justice reported that alcohol abuse was a factor in 40 percent of violent crimes.
2. The social implications of alcohol prohibition are **even worse**... Massive organized crime, for example, despite rampant alcohol use were part of prohibition.

The social implications are disastrous. Just look at what's happened in cities in California, from crime rates around the "dispensaries" to people living in groups like hippies of the 60s on public property, stoned out of their gourds, urinating in public - - and the police just walk right by.... (I'll bet the tourists are bewildered and sorry they visited). You can try to sell the "natural" aspect all you want or how it's needed for medical reasons, but I would prefer stand on the side of the line with the dozens and dozens of LEGITIMATE medical groups/associations who refuse to endorse smoked marijuana, as it causes more harm than good, and there are many other therapies available.

naw, a quarter was always a quarter. If you'd done more schooling and less drooling, you'd have remembered that. I guess that's why they call it "dope".
