I used to live in Duluth, but he job market drove us out. We still like to come back to 'get away' 3 or 4 times a year, but Duluth hotels are too expensive (especially after the added tourist tax). My family takes advantage of the 'deals' offered in communities around Duluth. Driving a little further up the shore can actually be cheaper and less crowded. We stayed at Lutsen for 2 nights and it only cost $120 (after taxes). We have done this the past few years and now, and unfortunately only spend a few hours in Duluth on our way through.

Since it will take years for Duluth to recover from the present economic conditions that are driving new graduates and potential investors away, why is the RED PLAN SCHOOL SCAM being pushed on our taxpayers without the democratic benefit of a traditional and totally fair VOTE?

Summer is the time to see Duluth at its finest. Despite all negative comments already written, there is so much to do that is free or low cost: Drive up the shore, have a picnic on the rocks, see free concerts in the park, walk along the beach at Park Point or the Lakewalk, see free movies in the park, visit a park, take a hike, go for a swim, watch the ships come and go, climb to the top of Enger Tower, walk through the trails at Hartley Field. It's all free. Duluth is a gem. If you are a native Duluthian, you know how to get places without hitting construction zones. Open your eyes. There's a fabulous city out there waiting to be enjoyed.

They should try lowering their prices so the local citizens could enjoy to spend a little more time near and around the park area! Their just to over rated for an already over taxed state! I also refuse to pay for parking, having lived in and visited many great places/cities where parking is free! "Open your eyes" I would still rather travel and go broke or just stay home! Being money hungry always asking for more taxes or simply thinking that way will get you no where! Get of your high horse cut these give me programs and put put the people and small business - "1st " .

I absolutely avoid downtown during the tourist season. Too many idiot drivers, and it's much worse during the tourist season. Plenty of time to see or do what I want after the tourists are gone. BTW: aren't we so lucky to have our entire local economy based upon the very fragile, low paying "house of cards" tourist trade? What genius devised that type of economy...oh yes that right, it's the product of 35 years of dumbocrat control of this city.

No, I live in Duluth but cannot afford to visit any of the attractions. There are many that I have never even seen at all because of cost. Also, the small window we have for construction adds to the feeling that there is too much construction going on. It has to be done when it can be done. Understand and work around it.
