Do people really stop in Duluth? I thought it was one of those drive-through towns you pass on the way to somewhere you really want to go.

What Jim the beer gardens? I don't drink so there goes that idea and I would never pay over inflated prices anyway. I haven't been there in at least ten years so I can't imagine what they are charging nowadays. Who has the license rape the the public with profits margins like they are selling crack. I can only in good conscience support those businesses that support working families.

We went out with our family on the tall ship that came into port - it was terrific fun! We stopped at Sammy's for pizza on our way north going home. We always bring family who are visiting both canoeing and hiking north of Duluth and into the city for the exciting activities that go on there, the boardwalk and to enjoy the big lake!
We are very concerned about St.Louis County pushing motorized recreation on the areas just north of town in Duluth - they are trying to wring every penny out of the lands with hardly a nod to proper stewardship. Duluthians need to be aware that they are the most powerful group in the county - which is one that has control of substantial treasure of Minnesota.

Why in the world would anyone protest Grandma's marathon. I can't imagine any useful purpose in doing that. It's a world class event.

By the end of August we will have visited Duluth 3 times since June and stayed overnight each time. This also doesn't count the numerous times when we just drive up for the day to enjoy the lake and the colder weather( trust me there is a big difference once you hit about Moose Lake. Each time we leave our kids (13 and 15) ask when are we coming back? We love Duluth. I went to college there in the 80's and have said before on different blogs if I could find a teaching job I would be back there in a heartbeat.
We love the movies in Leif Erickson Park. dancing at the Glensheen, walking the Lakewalk, Harley Park, Chester Bowl, lunch at Grandmas on the deck, biking on Park Point all of which are on the most beautiful fresh water lake in the world!!
We treasure evrey minute that we can spend in Duluth and always look forward to being there (even spent spring break this year in Duluth instead of heading south like everyone else) shhh don't tell anyone Duluth is a gem!!!

Daniel J...too bad for you that you haven't been to the Grandma's events. They are a blast....you can come protest next year (if that's even true) but no one will notice you and your negativity. Good luck with that!

No, I will not support tourism in Duluth as it doesn't support jobs that support families. I heard there is going to be a big protest of grandmas marathon next year. It will be the first time I have attended in years.

Yes--construction is a fact of life-the end product is always nicer then what was. Yes--Sidewalk days-West Duluth days--Parks(eating out)--Lakes--all weather permittting of course, are places for me to enjoy this summer. Yes--also up the shore for a fun ride. I don't need to sing the blues regarding living in Duluth far to many of the comments made before mine show me nothing is gained except isolation, boredom etc etc. The flower garden is a great beginning for exposure to colors, scents, scenery, fresh air to stimulate the brain...Wake up and smell the ROSES.....
