I'm pretty sure when I read the last census Duluth lost 2,500 white people and gained 2,500 people of color. This should not shock anyone as it has happened throughout the country in hundreds of cities for decades. Duluth is usually 20 years behind the rest of the nation and it is proving to be the same when it comes to white flight from certain areas of the city as blacks move in.

TWO white people moved here? Well that changes everything! The point being, Terry H., liberals crucified Charlie Bell for telling the truth. For not "shrouding" his comments enough. For speaking what everyone knew. For speaking to what thousands of voters wanted to say. NOW, you just admitted that Bell was correct all along!!.............Elderly people move to FL. with a retirement INCOME. They don't move to FL. to collect welfare and other benefits.

Terry H. Duluth, MN, bring some logic into your conversation. If you read what I wrote we would have been in agreement with what you boldly stated as secondly, so take a deep breath. As for race, this was your point, I am far from being racial. I have friends of other than white complexion. My spouse would be what you call of race, strange as in my vocabulary we are Americans. When this country starts living with this we will return to greatness. My point all along is these individuals bringing crime from other communities are counted as those increaseing the population, not those coming here to work. If you feel these are of race, you are one that needs change.

Well Dr, its not just black people, every person of color (including whites) are moving to the northern midwest and Duluth. Just like its not the elderly people who are the only ones moving to Florida. I personally know two white people who just moved here. Bring on the comments about that.

Duluth is the mecca for blacks moving from all points in the upper midwest. That's common knowledge, but SOME people feel it's not PC to even mention it. Duluth and St. Louis Co.'s reputation for fast, easy, subsidized housing and benefits are known nationwide. I know this may come as shock to you, Terry H., but they ain't comin here to work. Is that carefully worded enough?

I don't think so Bob W. No matter how careful you worded your statement, it was very much a shrouded racial comment. I did not make no one's life miserable talk about stretching the truth. Secondly, the service industry is not a viable solution to our community's job requirements. They pay is terrible and you are treated no better. What we need are people who are willing to help bring in jobs that people can live on or at least make a start. We need people who will not sit and complain (By the way I am sitting and complaining about people like you). Lastly, we all need to get together as a community, including the "trash" as many people so eloquently put it.

Terry H. Duluth, MN, people like you made life miserable for Mr Bell for saying the truth. I did not bring in race, you did and I will stand by what I say, I refer to the six o'clock news and who's pictures I see selling drugs and shooting clerks in the back for no reason. When you drive the College grads to points elsewhere to get employment this is what tells the story. Duluth is a controlled town, if you are not in the circle of the service industry you will have a hard time succeding. Lunch pail jobs make a viable community but one is condemed each time one is tried to be brought into this community. Start a "NonProfit" and you are a god with all the benefits. Sad side of this is "NonProfits" pay little if any taxes and most just drain the limited resources in a community.

Don't shame the people for wanting to a community that welcomes change, have good jobs, and of course where a city that isn't in the red. Shame the community for not banding together to find a viable solutions to our various problems rather than make shrouded racial comments about the people who are moving here.
