Jon Benjamin Arras, 23, Serving with the US Navy in Jacksonville, Fla., died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003 of natural causes.

Jon Benjamin Arras, 23, Serving with the US Navy in Jacksonville, Fla., died unexpectedly Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003 of natural causes. Jon was born April 7, 1980 in Duluth to Dennis and Kay (Bujold) Arras. He attended Holy Rosary School and graduated from the Marshall School in 1998, where he made and enjoyed the friendships he maintained until his passing. While at Marshall, he was on the ski and soccer teams and was involved in acting, musicals and talent shows. Jon joined the US Navy in May 1999 and recently re-enlisted. He served aboard the USS Enterprise during the 2nd Gulf War and most recently served aboard the USS Roosevelt during Operation Iraqi Freedom as a Search and Rescue Swimmer and Anti-submarine technician. Jon was awarded several commendations and was described by his commanding officer as 'really squared away' and 'one who would always do more than he was asked'. The Navy was his extended family, especially Heli Anti Submarine Squadron (HS3), Jacksonville. Jon achieved the rank of AW2/E-5 and was the security NCO for the squadron while at sea. Jon enjoyed music, good food, NASCAR and motorcycles at Daytona. He will be sorely and truly missed by his family and friends. Jon was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dewey and Lucille Bujold; grandfather Vernon Arras; Aunt Diane and Uncle Raymond Hayden. Jon is survived by his parents, Kay and Dennis Arras; brother, Philip at home; sister, Dany (Larry) Phillipes of Larkspur, Calif., and many other loving relatives and friends. VISITATION:5 p.m. with Wake Prayers at 7 p.m. Friday in the Dougherty Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary. Burial with Full Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials to Holy Rosary School or St. James Church. Arrangements by Dougherty Funeral Home 600 E 2nd St.
