LULA M. DERUSHA

Lula M. DeRusha of Cloquet, 94, passed away Oct.

Lula M. DeRusha of Cloquet, 94, passed away Oct. 24, 2008 in Cloquet, Minn.

Lula was born May 14, 1914 to Albert and Stella Kehn in Chasley, North Dakota.

Lula moved to Carlton County as a young girl. Lula married Cyril DeRusha on Dec. 08, 1930 in Cloquet, Minn. Cloquet is where Lula called home and raised her family.

Lula was devoted to her family. She was mainly a homemaker. She worked as a jail matron and also packed “Meals on Wheels” at Cloquet Memorial Hospital for many years. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and word finds. She kept ledgers of the days gone by. Lula had many stories to tell of the years and experiences of her life capturing them all in her writings. She had a sense of humor even in her last days. Lula will be deeply missed.

Lula was preceded in death by her husband, Cyril (Cy); sons, Michael and Henry; and five sisters, of which she was the youngest.

She is survived by daughter, Patricia Matlock (Gene Oakes) of Casper, Wyo.; three sons, Dennis (Linda) of Cloquet, Robert (Van Bastien) of McGregor, and Louis (Norma) of Siren, Wis.; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces (grand) and nephews (grand).

The family would like to thank Dr. Vikki Anderson of Cloquet for the compassion and intervention that she has given them and Lula in their time of need. The family would also like to thank the ‘outstanding’ care that she received from Plainview Estates Assisted Living in Cloquet. The caregivers were wonderful in the care and comfort that they bestowed onto Lula.

VISITATION: 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, 2009 until the 7 p.m. Funeral Service in the Handevidt Funeral Home 900 Washington Avenue, Cloquet, MN. The interment will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Arrangements with Handevidt Funeral and Cremation Service, 218-879-4636.
