A sweet surprise

About a week before Valentine’s Day, Chelsae and I were sitting on the couch watching television when I asked her, “What do you want for Valentine’s Day?” At that moment a jewelry commercial advertising rings came on and her response was, “One of those.”

I promptly told her I was sorry but I just could not afford “one of those” at this moment. Little did she know that I had been planning a date for the night of Feb. 13 for quite some time.

I had gone online and purchased M&M’s that read “I love you” and “Will you marry me?” I set it up so we would go to our favorite restaurant, Bridgeman’s, and I’d propose there. That morning I dropped off the M&M’s with the owner (and our good friend) and told him we would be in later that night.

After we arrived, we ordered our sundaes and chatted with some friends who had come to watch. When the waitress brought out her sundae and Chels saw the M&M’s, she said, “Ohh, these are funny.” When she said that, I got down on one knee and totally surprised her with the one gift she wanted the most — an engagement ring.

To top off the night, our friends who were working at Bridgeman’s that night put “Congratulations Chelsae and Jordan!” on the sign outside. It was a spectacular night and I don’t think Chelsae could have been any more surprised!
