LaVonne Marilyn (Meier) Johnson of Cloquet, formerly of Windom, Minn., passed away Feb. 4, 2014 at St. Mary's-Essentia in Duluth.
She was born Aug. 30, 1936 in Mt. Lake, Minn., to Jacob H. and Alma (Siemsglusz) Meier.
LaVonne was baptized in 1936 and confirmed in 1950 at Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Windom. She graduated from Windom High School in the class of 1954. LaVonne was married June 20, 1954 to Vernon A. "Butch" Johnson. Two children were born to this marriage. The couple farmed northwest of Jeffers until 1967, when they moved to Windom. LaVonne worked part-time as a bookkeeper at The Wolff Store in Windom. For health reasons, and in order to be closer to family, Butch and LaVonne moved to Cloquet in 2009.
LaVonne was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church of Esko. She enjoyed cooking and baking, gardening, travel, and the Minnesota Twins.
LaVonne was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years on Aug. 26, 2013; her parents and two infant sisters.
She is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Milt) Hagen of Cloquet; son Mark (Lynda) Johnson of Maplewood, Mo.; five grandchildren Laura Johnson of Indianapolis, Ind., Rachel (Kurt) Bartell of Duluth, Eric (Amber Mechem) Hagen of Duluth, Kyle Johnson and Todd Johnson, both of Maplewood, Mo.; one great-grandchild Maxwell Bartell of Duluth; two brothers Alvin Meier of Windom and James "Herm" Meier of Sanborn, Minn.; and other extended family and friends.
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 8, 2014 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Esko with a visitation starting at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the Family Life Center in the church.
