I am one of the owners of Superior Fuel Company. After reading the Feb. 2 article, “Propane price gouging raises concerns in Minnesota,” I was a little concerned and upset.
At Superior Fuel we serve customers who own their tanks as well as customers who lease tanks from us. Unfortunately, the article had it backward. Customers who own their tanks typically refuse to enroll in the price-protection plans we offer because they believe they will save by shopping around. When customers do not enroll in a plan, they are stuck paying the market price, no matter how high that price goes. At Superior Fuel, customers who enrolled in our price-protection plans — whether they lease or own a tank — are not paying the high prices.
We encourage all customers, no matter their tank-
ownership status, to enroll in pricing plans. It is a free insurance policy to protect consumers from price spikes like we are seeing now. These high prices hurt our customers, my company and our industry.
