News Tribune, Feb. 4, 1974 The Duluth City Council will consider a resolution tonight asking the Legislature to amend a state statute so that municipalities could insure employees through a self-insurance program. Duluth officials say they could save about $40,000 a year with self-insurance. Sampling for asbestos is one objective of a federal water-quality survey of Lake Superior that is to begin today. The survey is being conducted by a seven-man team of scientists and technicians from the Environmental Protection Agency.
News Tribune, Feb. 4, 1994 Friends of Bayfront Park, hoping to block the development of Duluth’s planned factory mall, handed in a 2,900-signature petition yesterday. The petition aims to do away with a special finance district that is part of the deal to develop the mall. Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad said yesterday his team is for sale but only to local investors who would keep the team in Minnesota. Pohlad said he would sell the team at a very favorable price if he can find local purchasers.
