Michael Craig Gray, 65 of Fergus Falls, Minn., formerly of Duluth, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at his residence from natural causes.
Michael was born on Nov. 4,1948 in Fergus Falls, the son of Gaylord and Gloria (Barton-Dahlin) Gray.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Fergus Falls Grace United Methodist Church. Michael graduated from Fergus Falls Public High School in 1967. At a young age, Michael lived near the funeral home where he currently worked, and gained an interest in his future life career. Following high school graduation, he attended the University of Minnesota Mortuary Science program. He earned his Mortuary Science Degree from that Institution in 1971.
As a graduate, he served his internship in Minneapolis, prior to accepting a position as a Funeral Director in Hawley, Minn., at Vigen Funeral Chapel. Michael later went on to work in Detroit Lakes at West Kjos Funeral Home.
Michael moved to Duluth and met Judith Rae Fuller, whom he married in the First United Methodist Church there on Sept. 6, 1980. The couple continued to reside in Duluth where Michael worked at several Funeral Homes for 20 years. Michael worked as a Funeral Director in Cloquet, Minn., and Chippewa Falls, Wis. He moved to Fergus Falls in 2006 to assist in the care of his ailing mother and began working at Glende-Nilson Funeral Homes and Larson Funeral Home in Pelican Rapids. More recently, he began working full time at the Faith & Hope Funeral Home in Fergus Falls. He then had the opportunity to secure a part time time position as Funeral Director at Boschert-Norman Funeral Home where he worked at his time of passing. Michael was very proud of his years helping others in their time of need.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners Organization in Duluth, the Arrowhead Funeral Directors Association, and recently the Kiwanis in Fergus Falls. Michael was a past member of the Minnesota Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. Michael was also an active member of the Fergus Falls Grace United Methodist Church.
His hobbies included watching movies, racquetball and running in his younger years in which he lettered in track, with golf being his primary interest during his adult life. He enjoyed attending Fergus Falls Otters Football and Basketball games and watching the Minnesota Vikings and Twins games. Michael found great pleasure over the years as a dog owner. Many “Man’s Best Friends” were a part of his life including, most recently, a much beloved Yorkie, Ashley and his current companion, April, who was rescued from the local Humane Society.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Gaylord and Gloria; a baby sister, Jody; and his grandparents.
Michael is survived by an aunt, Patricia Barton of Denver; former wife, Judy Gray of Duluth; Godson and nephew, Jason (Starlene) Anderson of St. Cloud and special nephew, Jeffrey(Alissa) Anderson of Duluth; sisters-in-law, Janet (fiancé Steven DeHaan) Fuller and Karen (Tom) Schluter of Duluth, Suzanne (Roger) Koski of Proctor; a brother–in-law, Greg (Deb Hobbs) Fuller of Duluth along with numerous , nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former co-workers and his beloved dog April.
VISITATION: 12 Noon to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in the Boschert-Norman Funeral Home and 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 until the 2 p.m. service in Grace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls. Reverend Wesley Gabel officiating. Interment at Oak Grove Cemetary, Fergus Falls.
