Patrick Coughlin, 80, of Duluth, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013 in Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Patrick was born on Dec. 7, 1933 to Lawrence and Josephine (Kaneski) Coughlin.
He married Doris Soukkala on Aug. 22, 1953. Patrick worked for Diamond Match from 1952-1954 and Northwest Paper from 1954-1963. In 1963 he bought a semi and worked over the road. In 1968 he formed Halvor Lines with partners, Bill Vinje, Wally Seabury, Tony Jusczak and Duane Rathe. In 1977 Patrick sold out to Bill Vinje, but continued to work at Halvor Lines for a number of years. Patrick also owned and operated Uncle John’s Maple Syrup at the Coughlin family farm in Sawyer.
On Dec. 24, 1984 he married Carol Heaton and they retired to Port Charlotte, Fla., in 2001.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Carol; siblings, Harvey, Elizabeth “Betty” and Robert.
Patrick is survived by the mother of his children Doris Coughlin; sons, Paul (Toni) Coughlin, Perry Coughlin, Mark (Deana) Coughlin; daughters, Pam (Lee) Hall, Patsy Tarvas, Penny (Chuck) Hagberg, Melanie (Tony) Ferlito; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and sister Mary Ferrar as well as many extended family members and friends.
