Shirley Ann (Smith) Stahl, our wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, 92, of Duluth, passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton.
She was born on May 3, 1921 in Dent, Minn., to William and Annie Laurie Smith.
Shirley married Raymond S. Stahl on Feb. 26, 1949, in Duluth, and spending time with her family was her main focus in life.
Shirley was employed by Carlton Nursing Home and retired in 1985. She was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, American Legion Post Auxiliary 106, Retail Clerks Union, and West Duluth Moose 1487. Shirley also enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, fishing, dancing and playing cards with family and friends.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, William and Annie Laurie; husband, Ray; three sisters, Francis, Winifred, and Wilma; and five brothers, Hugh, Albert, Percy, Thomas and Dale.
Survivors include her children, Raymond, Jr. (Colleen) of Proctor, Patty (Jim) Zimmerman of Phoenix, Ariz., and Ron (Sue) and Randy (Trudy), both of Cloquet; her sister, Beverly Kangas of Perham, Minn.; her grandchildren, Glenn Stahl, Kelly (Vance) Okstad, Becky Opoien, Laura, Brent, and Jace Stahl; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Hunter Stahl, Wyatt and Nolan Okstad, and Gianna Stahl.
The family would like to thank the staff of Inter-Faith Care Center for their love, support and special care of our mother.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Inter-Faith Care Center.
