Robert “Bob” W. Carlson, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013 at his home in Moose Lake, Minn.
He was born April 6, 1923 in Lakewood Township, Duluth, to Ben and Helen (Hedberg) Carlson.
He graduated from Clover Valley High School in 1941 and went to work as a truck driver. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942, serving four years in the South Pacific before his honorable discharge in 1945. He then settled in Moose Lake, Minn., and resumed his truck driving career. He married Esther Reilly in 1948 and together they shared 55 good years until her death in 2003. After his retirement, they enjoyed traveling, especially out west, snowmobiling locally as well as in Wyoming and West Yellowstone, rodeos, museums and wintering in Texas. He had many friends, including his coffee buddies at Art’s Café which was like his second home. He thoroughly enjoyed being spoiled by Cheryl and his favorite waitresses. Bob was always well known for his many fancy western shirts and boots he always wore. He was truly a cowboy at heart.
Bob is survived by one daughter; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters.
SERVICES: will not be held as per his request. There will be a family gathering at the cemetery when he is laid to rest beside his beloved wife.
