Beverly "Bev" Joy (Towers) Melanson, 78, of Saginaw, Minn., died Sunday Dec. 15, 2013 at St. Luke’s hospital Duluth.
Bev was born to the late William and Evelyn Towers on Sept. 21, 1935.
Bev attended Proctor High School. She married Marvin Melanson on Nov. 22, 1952.
Bev worked for Nopeming Nursing Home as a cook for 15 years. She owned two businesses; Relaxersise and Starvin Marvins’ Restaurant. She retired in December 1998.
Bev’s hobbies included; shopping, cake decorating, playing cards, sewing, doll making and ceramics. She won many ribbons at the Proctor County Fair for baking and sewing. She enjoyed watching old movies. She liked to collect Hummel’s, antiques and porcelain dolls. She was a brownie/girls scout troop leader. She enjoyed traveling, especially to England.
She was a member of the Proctor Minnesota Chapter 585 Women of the Moose. She was actively involved with Marvin’s stock car racing, EAA flying chapter and other adventures. She also enjoyed being with her family and singing to her grand and great-grand children. Bev was a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, Hermantown (formerly Christ Church Proctor). She was in the Holy Hannah’s women’s group.
Bev is survived by her husband, Marvin Melanson, Saginaw, Minn.; children, Lynda (Gary) Lund, Avon, Minn., Kenneth (Jane) Melanson, Duluth, Susan (David) Lysdahl, South Range, Wis., and Connie (Thomas) Semmelroth, Duluth; grandchildren, Cassandra (Chris) Popehn, Carla (Jon) Daniels, Krista (Justin) Solt, Ryan Lund, Geoffrey (Kari) Lund, Russell (Shandra) Melanson, Michael Stahl, Sara Cardinal, Elizabeth (Adam) Carlson, and Jonathon Semmelroth; great- grandchildren, Justin, Brandon, Brian and Jessica Popehn, Eric and, KayLee Lehrke, Trace Solt, Sylvia Warren, Marissa and Alexis Daniels, Haydn Stahl, Zoie and Evie Carlson, and Melanson twins due in February 2014 and baby Lund due in July 2014, siblings Darlene (Earl) Elde, George (Sheila) Towers, Dorothy (Kurt) Besser, and James (Mary) Towers; many nieces, nephews and extended family members and friends.
