News Tribune, Dec. 17, 1973 A morbidity study to determine the incidence of gastrointestinal cancer diagnosed in Duluth and North Shore hospitals has been proposed by the Minnesota Department of Health. The reason behind the proposal is the presence of asbestos in Lake Superior water. The Duluth School Board and Morgan Park residents may have to choose between a competition-size swimming pool at Morgan Park High School or a smaller pool and an enlarged industrial arts program. The subject will be discussed at a committee of the whole meeting tomorrow night.
News Tribune, Dec. 17, 1993 More than 40 volunteer firefighters from the Solon Springs, Bennett and Gordon departments fought a blaze this week at Ginny’s Kafe in Solon Springs. All that remains is the frame of the building that has housed several businesses for the past 50 years. The Duluth Ballet’s annual staging of “The Nutcracker” runs this weekend at the DECC. Featuring the Duluth Ballet company, a few guest artists and children from the ballet’s school, the familiar Tchaikovsky ballet has been a Christmas tradition in Duluth since 1965.
