Minneapolis-based Jefferson Lines said today that it has discontinued bus service between Duluth and Eau Claire, Wis.
The bus line will continue to offer service between Duluth and the Twin Cities and from the Twin Cities to Green Bay, which will serve Eau Claire. But cities between Duluth and Eau Claire no longer will have regular bus service, including Solon Springs, Minong, Spooner, Rice Lake, Chetek and Bloomer.
The company said the last service for the Duluth-Eau Claire route occurred Dec. 6.
“After providing bus service to several communities between Duluth and Eau Claire for the last two years we made the decision, as a result of low ridership, to discontinue this route,” Kevin Pursey, director of marketing at Jefferson Lines, said in a statement. “We never like discontinuing service to an area, but running this route with so few riders simply isn’t efficient.”
In addition to the Duluth-Twin Cities service Jefferson continues to offer service between Duluth and Fargo, N.D., as well as Duluth and the Iron Range, including Hibbing, Virginia and Grand Rapids.
