You might have missed this on your activities calendar for December, but next week is National Influenza Vaccination Week.
So says the Minnesota Department of Health, which is urging people who haven’t gotten their flu shots yet to take time in between shopping and trimming trees to get it done.
The vaccine is recommended for everyone older than 6 months, except for people who can’t be vaccinated for medical reasons, a health department news release said. Shots are available at doctors’ offices, local health department clinics, drug stores, work sites and other community settings.
You can find a nearby clinic by going to mdhflu.com and selecting “vaccine clinic lookup.”
The news release points out that more than 3,000 people in Minnesota were hospitalized with influenza last year. So far this season, flu activity has been sporadic, with no cases reported in Northeastern Minnesota.
