If you are a music/worship leader in the Northland, you might want to take note of this event which includes workshops on ways to incorporate congregations into your services.
First Lutheran Church will host two organ-related events called “January Jubilee” on Jan. 24 and 25 in association with the Arrowhead Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
The events begin Friday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m., at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, with a public performance of the Charlie Chaplin silent film “The Circus,” accompanied by Dr. Aaron David Miller.
Miller is a concert organist and improviser who is currently serving at House of Hope Presbyterian Church in St. Paul, Minn. Miller will be improvising along to the Chaplin film on the new Jaeckel pipe organ. The experience is supposed to remind the audience what it was like to watch a silent film with live musical accompaniment — before “the talkies” of today.
Then, on Sat., Jan. 25, there will be a workshop for worship leaders and church musicians from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Churches and their musicians from Northern Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Michigan are invited to attend the conference. There will be nine workshops which will provide information about topics related to directing, technical-, instrumental- and communication skills, and how to deal with clergy, children and youth. The price for the conference is $25.
The January Jubilee program is sponsored by the Arrowhead Chapter of the American Guild of Organists as well as the Committee on Musicians in Part-time Employment of the American Guild of Organists.
The purpose of the Arrowhead Chapter of the American Guild of Organists is to bring individuals together for fellowship, recitals, concerts, workshops and other educational opportunities. The January Jubilee is offered for guild and non-organ guild members in hopes they will receive information applicable to them and their congregations.
