Edna Minna Hedwig Schneiderman, 100, of the Benedictine Health Center died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013.
She was born in Swanville, Minn., Dec. 18, 1912, to Reverend Martin and Josephine Kretzschmar.
She met Max Schneiderman in Duluth on a blind date. She liked him. They got married in 1935. They lived in Duluth until Max served in the Navy during World War II and the family was stationed in Norfolk, VA. After the war, they returned to Duluth. In 1948, they bought a dilapidated general store near Meadowlands. The two of them worked long hours seven days a week and it eventually became Schneiderman's Furniture.
Edna was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Meadowlands. When she moved to Westwood, she was instrumental in starting the Faith Discussion Group which remains active today. She was devoted to her faith and family and took great pleasure in hearing about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Almost to the end, Edna could be heard quoting from memorized poetry, scripture, and quotes from famous speeches, some dating back to her state champion debate team days.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; and, her sons, Phillip and Russell; and grandchildren, Joseph Schneiderman, Greg Schneiderman, and Jeffery Braun.
Survivors include her sons, Larry (Sheila) Schneiderman of Lakeville, Minn., and David of Duluth; daughters, Claudia (Michael) Schrotz of Jackson, Wyo., and Karen (Robert) Braun of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren, Christopher (Ramona) Braun, Joel (Patricia) Wahlsten, Jennifer Wahlsten (Tim Holmes), Marc Schneiderman, Jason (Natalie) Schneiderman, Jodi (Chris Morris) Schneiderman, Jenna (Collin) Schneiderman-Oie, Molly Schneiderman and John Schneiderman; and daughter-in-law Monica Schneiderman; great grandchildren, Allison and Madison Wahlsten, Markus, Mara, Travis, Eric, and Kyle Braun and AnAn Morris-Schneiderman.
The family expresses its gratitude to the staff at BHC and Westwood for their care and kindness over these years.
