Gerald Lee Gustafson, 77, from Yuma, Ariz., formerly of Blaine, Minn., passed away on Sunday Oct. 20, due to complications following open heart surgery.
Gerry was born Oct. 9, 1936 in Duluth, to Paul and Genevieve Gustafson.
He was an inspiring teacher in the Mound school district for over 30 years and was an avid hunter and committed tennis player (he was still on the court as of a few months ago).
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 55 years, Joann; and their four children, Craig (Janelle) Gustafson, Scott (Gaby) Gustafson, JoEllen Schneider, and Melanie Gustafson. Gerry is also survived by nine grandchildren; his sister Linda Tuhkanen; and his brother Paul "Butch" (Elena) Gustafson.
The family extends their grateful appreciation to the Yuma Regional Medical Center for their loving care of Gerry and the family.
VISITATION: 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, prior to the 11 a.m. service in Christ Lutheran Church of Yuma, 2555 S Engler Ave. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center, 2400 S. Avenue A, Yuma, AZ 85364 - reference Gerry's name in the memo line.
A memorial will also be held in Proctor, Minn., during early summer 2014.
