St. Louis County Board
Since my announcement on Aug. 27 that I am running for 2nd District St. Louis County Commissioner, I have truly enjoyed each minute of my campaign journey
I have entered this race to provide an independent voice to all citizens of the 2nd District. I will give the county commissioner position 100 percent each day, as this will be my one and only job. I guarantee that I will listen and work hard to find solutions to issues as it is imperative that the 2nd District continues to have respectful and responsible representation.
On Aug. 30, I retired from Grandma’s Marathon after serving 37 wonderful years as the organization’s director. With the support of many, Grandma’s Marathon grew to one of the largest and most successful marathons in the nation with more than 17,000 participants and 6,000 volunteers annually. Since 1977, Grandma’s Marathon has generated over $200 million, in direct economic dollars, to the Northland. I will bring my management, budget and leadership skills to the county with enthusiasm.
A lifelong Duluthian and graduate from the University of Minnesota Duluth, I proudly served two terms on the Duluth City Council from 1992 to 1999 and was chosen by my colleagues to lead the council as president in 1995 and 1999. This will be my return to local government, and
I will provide strong leadership with which I will bring a high level of energy, work ethic and common sense to our local government. I will be a community leader without governing by partisan politics. I will always proudly represent everyone!
I will be a strong supporter for the proper funding of our public works department in the maintenance of our roadways and bridges. I will work hard in strengthening our community through economic development by the creation of living-wage jobs and maintaining a strong sheriff’s department. I believe it is important that we manage our lands respectfully which ensures that we will protect and preserve our environment.
Thank you for your vote on November 5.
