School Board Fourth District
At its August meeting, the Duluth School Board considered a resolution that read, in part, “questions of renewing and increasing the education revenue of the district shall be submitted to the voters.” Incredibly, this resolution did not pass unanimously. One member abstained, possibly believing that the district would be better off either without voter input or without a levy. If the board learned only one thing over the past few years, it should have been to ask voters to approve investments in Duluth Public Schools. On November 5, I urge voters to elect four new members to the board. I would be honored to be the new representative for western Duluth. Also, I urge voters to vote “yes” on both questions of the education levy. Send the message to the new school board that trust is a two-way street. Prosperity in Duluth and the future of our children will not be held hostage by an angry minority. We invested in the modern schools that our children and community deserve. We must now invest in teachers and smaller class sizes.
This is my first run for public office. If elected, I will work to be a great school board member and a mediocre politician. I volunteer my time in our schools. I see how crowded classrooms hurt instruction. I want to learn more about the challenges facing teachers and paraprofessionals as educators and as employees. I will talk to anyone putting $13.7 million on the table for Central. This is not political calculus. It’s simply the right way to lead. I want to be part of the new board working cooperatively and openly to fulfill our community’s goals of increasing student achievement, keeping schools safe and classrooms productive, and wisely spending tax dollars. Please vote for David Bolgrien for Duluth School Board on November 5.
