Candidate view - Duluth School Board - Rosie Loeffler-Kemp
By: Rosie Loeffler-Kemp, For the Budgeteer News
School Board First District
My husband Ken and I have seen three of our children, Rachel, Hannah and Seth, graduate from Duluth East, and our fourth child, Mariah, is in the sixth grade at Ordean East Middle School. Our children, each a different learner, have had an excellent education and school experience. We, like many people I talk to, are thankful for the excellent teachers and staff at Rockridge, Lester Park,
Ordean, and East who worked with us to instill a love of learning, respect, and the desire to be responsible global citizens. I will continue to work to ensure all children have a great education, and all families have a positive school experience.
I have seen firsthand the challenges our schools are facing and the impact of current budgets. I will work tirelessly to bring a positive, constructive, collaborative voice to help lower class sizes, close the achievement gap, create more welcoming schools, eliminate bullying, and strengthen our public schools. I support the school referendum that will help reduce class sizes across the district.
As a parent, I understand the importance of a strong education and the issues facing parents and caregivers and students. During my three years as the Minnesota state PTA president, I increased my understanding of state and national education issues and advocated for Minnesota and Duluth’s schools, students and families. My extensive board experience gives me an understanding of the role of boards and how to work effectively as a board member.
I have the experience, knowledge, relationships, passion, and commitment to be an effective leader on the school board. As an involved parent, community advocate, nonprofit professional and volunteer, I have a perspective that no other candidate can bring to the school board. Thank you for your vote on November 5.
