School Board At-Large
My love of education and my desire to serve our community is why I am running for the Duluth School Board. Ten years ago I chaired the referendum committee that helped pass a much needed education levy. That referendum is up for a renewal vote this year. If you’ve worked on a referendum campaign, you know how much you put your heart and soul into the effort. It is a labor of love. I am thankful the community supported that referendum in 2003 and its renewal in 2008. I hope the community joins me in voting for both levels of the referendum this year.
I am a lifelong learner. I went back to school in my mid-40s to earn my Master of Business Administration degree. I have taught at two universities.
I served on the Duluth School Board from 2006 through 2009. I was a leader in the People to People Student Ambassador program.
While working in the field of Information Technology, my focus was on implementing software solutions that helped businesses become more efficient. I mined data to identify areas of concern, control costs, increase revenue and set direction. I currently work for St. Louis County as the Chief Deputy Auditor.
Our school district needs a leader with a financial background. A person who digs into problems, brings people together to find solutions and gets them implemented. It needs a positive person that supports the educational goals of our community. I have that experience and a wealth of knowledge and expertise on district issues.
I have a desire to make sure Duluth has a public education system our community can be proud of, one that can be counted on to educate our youth in the best possible way, and one that the taxpayers can afford. Vote pro-education. Vote Nancy Nilsen.
