Archie Walter Martin, 78, of Cloquet, passed away Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, in St. Luke’s hospital surrounded by his family.
Archie was born Sept. 19, 1935, in Osage, Minn., to Walter and Esther (Niskanen) Martin. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1964 and was united in marriage to Alice Pauna Feb. 3, 1962. Archie worked for the Conwed Corp. and the Potlatch Corp. in Cloquet before retiring.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Archie loved and enjoyed his family and his many friends. He like nothing better than a good cup of coffee, a piece of pie and a good visit. He frequented the Family Tradition Restaurant, and they will miss his presence.
Archie was a very talented musician and enjoyed playing his accordion, organ and drums. He played at Elmwood Inn and other venues in the past. He also entertained the residence of the Sunnyside Health Care where his wife, Alice, resides. His many talents also included carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, etc. There was not much he couldn’t do. He did many projects around the Cloquet area, including the first expansion of Gordy’s Hi Hat Restaurant and built their picnic tables years ago.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Larry Martin; and infant brother Gary Lee Martin.
Archie is survived by and will be missed dearly by his wife, Alice; sons Douglas and Brian (Brenda Nicholson-Martin) Martin; granddaughter Maya; brother Dwight (Faye) Martin; sisters Joyce Haluptzak, June (Russ) DuFault, Linda (Bill) Lyons, Patricia Martin and Pamela (Randy Henschel) Anderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
VISITATION: 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Oct. 29, in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Cloquet. Interment service will be at Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.
