Eddie C. Johnson, 91, of Carlton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013,
surrounded by his loved ones. He was born Jan. 28, 1922, in Wilton, N.D. to Carl and Thrya (Anderson) Johnson. Eddie attended school in Florence Lake Township in Burleigh County in North Dakota and then went to industrial school in Ellendale, N.D. He was drafted by the U.S. Army in October 1942 at the age of 22. During his three years of service, he was stationed in California, Louisiana, Colorado, Africa and Italy. In October of 1945, he was medically discharged due to serious illness contracted while serving. On June 11, 1949, after many years of courtship, Eddie married the love of his life, Dorcas Kaetterhenry. Soon after, he became employed by U.S. Steel in Duluth, where he worked until he retired after 37 years. Throughout their married life they enjoyed farming, and together they had a son, Burton L. Johnson on Dec. 15, 1951. Eddie had a full life and took many trips to Alaska, Oregon and Florida to visit family. He even had an opportunity to visit Washington, D.C. and see the WWII Memorial last year.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Dorcas; son, Burton; sister, Mary Behymer; and brothers, Conrad and Mayland Johnson; all living in Cordova, Alaska.
Visitation: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wrenshall. Interment service will be at Hillside Cemetery in Carlton with full Military Honors presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 of Carlton. A luncheon will follow in the church social hall.
