Angeline "Angie" Ellen Bender, 91 of Grand Rapids, Minn., died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013 at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
Angie was born in 1922 in her home in rural Centuria, Wis., to Harry and Ruth (Peterson) Skoog.
Angie graduated from St Croix Falls High School in 1940 and worked at the Richard Street Cafeteria in Minneapolis until 1943 when she went to work at the Ford plant in St. Paul as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. After the war, she worked at Dayton’s department store, then Angeline’s Dress shop in Minneapolis, going back to Dayton’s after the birth of her children. In 1973 Angie and Roland purchased Stenborg Shoes and moved to Grand Rapids. She worked at Bender’s Shoes until her retirement in January of 2010, at age 88. Angie married Scott Danielson in 1946 in St Croix Falls. He passed away in 1950. She married Roland Bender in 1953 in Minneapolis. They were married for 36 years and raised three children.
Angie was active in Business Professional Women from 1978 to 1998, and she was elected president in 1982. She was an active member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1973. Angie cherished her faith and was devoted to her family and friends.
Angie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Scott Danielson and Roland Bender; her twin sisters Clarice Lindahl and Alice Gustafson; her brother, Don Skoog; her brothers-in-law, Charles Campbell, Gene Lindahl, Ed Gustafson; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lois and Doug Hanson; her nephews, Rodney Campbell, Mike Lindahl and Bradley Gustafson.
She is survived by daughter, Karen (Joe) Sletten; sons, Craig (Cindy) and Brian (Linda); grandchildren, Laura (Jake) Iskerika, Eric (Erica Mack) Sletten, Tom Sletten, Tara and Reed Bender; sister, Irene Campbell; brother, Leslie (Dee) Skoog; sister-in-law, Jan Skoog.
VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids, Minn., and will continue on Monday, Oct. 7, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Funeral Service. Rev Paul Leslie will officiate. Burial will be at Harris Cemetery, Harris Township, Minn., at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.
