Martha Mary Juntunen, 96, passed away on Sept 24, 2013. She lived a happy, full life and will be missed by many.
Martha was born in Cloquet, Minn.
She graduated from Cloquet High School with honors. She worked for the Diamond Match company, Roman's Style Shop, Towsle's coffee and meals, Mrs. McNair in her home, and as a bookkeeper for her father's trucking and logging company.
In 1938, she married Oscar Juntunen who later became the Carlton County Sheriff. Martha was a Deputy Sheriff and cooked three meals a day, 365 days a year for the prisoners for 16 years.
Martha was an artist. Her work is displayed in most countries of the world. In addition, Martha was District President for the MN Parents and Teachers Assoc. and was involved in many other community organizations.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ida (Saari) Wahtera; father, Eino Wahtera; son, Frede; husband, Oscar Juntunen.
Martha had three children, Frede (deceased), Stephen Juntunen (Lynette Rauscher) and Mary Juntunen and three grandchildren, Tess Chase (Derrick), Molly Weinrich (Cory) and Paul Hohn (Stacie) and six great-grandchildren, Samantha, Derek, Finn, Florence, Lola and Lyra.
MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in the Cloquet Presbyterian Church, 47 4th St. with coffee to follow.
