News Tribune, Sept. 26, 1993 Union negotiators representing workers at Eveleth Mines are back on the Iron Range today and are concerned over the future of the taconite plant. Three days of contract talks in the Twin Cities ended yesterday with no tentative contract agreement. A total of 49,560 hawks passed over Hawk Ridge in eastern Duluth on Sept. 18, eclipsing the former single-day record of 33,588 set on Sept. 15, 1978. Of the 49,560 hawks, 47,919 were broad-wing hawks, shattering the single-day record for broad-wings.
