Sunday is not only the first day of fall, it’s also a day to think about preventing falls.
Gov. Mark Dayton declared Sunday to be Falls Prevention Awareness Day in Minnesota, the Minnesota Department of Human Services said in a news release. It makes Minnesota the 47th state to join the national Falls Free Initiative.
The news release noted that older Minnesotans experienced more than 32,000 falls in 2010, causing 690 fatalities and estimated medical costs of more than $275 million.
