Since it is a holiday weekend, there’s a need for eligible donors to roll up a sleeve and give blood or platelets.
The need is especially urgent right now for O-negative, B-negative and A-negative blood types, as well as for platelet donations, the American Red Cross in St. Paul said this week in a plea via the media. The need is so urgent the Red Cross is entering all donors who donate through Sept. 9 into a drawing to win one of five $1,000 gift cards; and all donors on Saturday, Sunday and Labor Day Monday will get a T-shirt in appreciation.
Thousands in the Gopher State answered a similar plea earlier this year. Summer’s waning warm months can be a difficult time to collect enough blood and platelet donations to keep pace with patient needs, Geoff Kaufmann, CEO of the Red Cross North Central Blood Services Region, said in a prepared statement.
Upcoming blood donation opportunities in the Northland include today from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sprint Store at 1027 W. Central Entrance, Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. at American Legion on Forest Road in Deerwood, Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Cross on County Road 13 in Nisswa, and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lutheran Church of Cross in Nisswa.
Donors also can always call (800) 733-2767 or can always visit redcrossblood.org to make appointments or to find out more.
Making a donation can be seen as a labor of love. And what more appropriate weekend is there for that than Labor Day?
