The U.S. Coast Guard evacuated a 48-year-old woman by boat from the Apostle Islands on Thursday after she showed signs of having a heart attack.
The Coast Guard reported that it received a call at about noon requesting a medical evacuation from Stockton Island. The caller reported that he had been on his boat near the island when the woman’s daughter waved him down from shore.
A Coast Guard crew launched a 45-foot response boat from the station in Bayfield, accompanied by emergency medical technicians. The EMTs went ashore and treated the woman, who was then transferred to the Coast Guard boat and brought back to Bayfield along with her daughter and a friend. The woman was transported to a hospital by ambulance.
The Coast Guard did not release information on the woman’s name or hometown, and did not have information on her condition.
