Cynthia "Cindy" R. Paakkonen, 58, of Cook, passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013 at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth.
She was born Cynthia Ruth Lemire on Nov. 21, 1954 in Crosby, Minn., the daughter of Virgil and Eleanor (Hedberg) Lemire.
Cindy grew up mostly in the Gilbert-Hutter area, graduating from Gilbert High School in 1972. Earlier she worked in the Sherman Mine, then later at Minntac. She married Richard A. Paakkonen on April 16, 1983 at Sand Lake Chapel. She worked at the Arrowhead Nursing Home in Virginia for 13 years. For the past 10 years Cindy was employed as an instructional aide at the Cook School. She league bowled for 30 years, enjoyed playing cards with the neighbors, and made wonderful crafts with her scroll saw. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and mother and a friend to all.
Cindy is survived by her husband of 30 years, Richard of Cook; children, Ted and Joe Paakkonen, both of Cook; her parents, Virgil and Eleanor Lemire of Aitkin, Minn.; three brothers, Jeff (Mary) Lemire of Alamogordo, N.M., Dave (Jean) Lemire of Becker, Minn., and Perry (Denise) Lemire of Duluth; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
SERVICE: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013 in the Mlaker Funeral Home in Cook. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and one hour prior to the service. Rev. Joey "pj" Bailey will be the officiant. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery of Angora.
