Barbara A. (Nichols) Maloney, 82, of Duluth died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at her home.
She was born April 3, 1931 in Havana, Ill., to C. Arthur and Mildred (Hall) Nichols.
Barbara was a 1949 graduate of Havana High School. On Oct. 26, 1957 she married William D. Maloney.
Barbara was the secretary of the Chemical Dependency Unit at Miller Dwan Hospital until 1977 when she became the Principal Secretary of the College of Letters and Science and later of the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, retiring in 1992.
Barbara was a convert to the Catholic Church in 1949. She and William were members of St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church until after his death when she joined St. Michael’s Catholic Church.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William D. Maloney in 2003; and her brother, Edward H. Nichols of Jefferson City, Mo., in 2004.
She is survived by her son, Timothy G. Maloney of Duluth; sister-in-law, Verna Nichols of Palmetto, Fla.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
GATHERING OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Aug. 17, in St. Michaels Catholic Church, 4901 E. Superior St. Arrangements entrusted to Cremation Society of Minnesota, 624-5200.
