If you’re a woman in Duluth, you may want to consider stopping by the Rose Garden this Wednesday at Duluth Women of Today’s membership night.
The event, taking place 5-7 p.m., will be an opportunity for women to learn about the Women of Today organization and seasoned members of the Duluth chapter, said membership co-ordinator Bernice Graves.
“[The meeting] is to get people to know about our women’s group and to tell them what we’re all about,” said chair of the national convention, Cindy Sanders.
The Duluth Women of Today, started in 2004, is just one of more than 80 chapters, according to Minnesota Women of Today. Duluth falls under the fourth Women of Today district which also includes Aitken, Hibbing, Virginia and Brainerd, said Graves. The Duluth chapter currently has 20 members.
Women of Today members meet on the second Monday of each month to discuss activities and event plans. It’s like a business meeting, said Sanders. “We plan events that we want to volunteer at and branch out to get members.”
“Our motto is ‘Service, Growth and Fellowship,’” said Graves. “Servicing community with help for needs, growth through bettering ourselves mentally, and fellowship through getting to know the women in your group, in the district or the state.”
Women of Today is a national organization, and the cost of joining the Minnesota Women of Today is $45 per year. This year, the national convention will be held at the Inn on Lake Superior, said Sanders, who is in charge of planning the convention.
The membership night is a way to become involved in the group before the convention.
“Learn how to volunteer in your community, come to meet your neighbors, come and meet new friends,” said Sanders.
The event is free. Refreshments will be provided.
