An environmentally friendly Duluth housing subdivision will celebrate the groundbreaking of its third and final phase this week.
Hawk Ridge Estates, located at the north end of 52nd Ave, East, will officially break ground on the construction of streets and utilities for the final phase of development, which will open an additional 15 acres and 37 lots for land buyers.
The Lester Park-area subdivision is designed to conserve the natural territory by preserving 38 percent of the development area for environmental and ecological protection and recreational use. The mixed-incoming subdivision, developed by the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority, has been in the works for more than a decade.
The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony, news conference and tour of the development at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Mayor Don Ness and Duluth Area Chamber of Commerce President David Ross will be featured speakers.
The celebration will be held at the top of Bald Eagle Trail, east of 52nd Ave. East, above Redtail Drive.
