News Tribune, July 12, 1973Wisconsin officials yesterday quashed rumors of detection of asbestos fibers in Superior’s public drinking water supply from horizontal wells under Lake Superior off Minnesota Point. Sampling and testing of water supplies of Superior and Ashland are being conducted.Agate clubs from Michigan, Iowa and Wisconsin will join Minnesotans in Moose Lake’s Agate Days this weekend. A new map of the area showing country roads is available to enable visitors to travel the countryside in search of agates without becoming lost.
News Tribune, July 12, 1993The Windigo Lodge on Poplar Lake 30 miles northwest of Grand Marais is scheduled to open at the end of the month after being destroyed by fire two years ago. The new structure houses a restaurant, gift shop, liquor store and three villas.James Nordberg won first prize this weekend at the Floodwood Catfish Festival with an 11-pound, 9-ounce blue channel catfish he caught in the St. Louis River. Nordberg had been trying to win the contest for 12 years.
