A Duluthian is among the four winners of $1,000 scholarships awarded by the Minnesota Chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (NAHRO).
Choua Jessica Xiong, who resides with her mother and siblings in a scattered-site public housing property owned and managed by the Duluth Housing and Redevelopment Authority, was recently named one of four statewide recipients of the award.
Nominees for the award must be residents of an NAHRO member-owned housing facility or a participant in a rental assistance program administered by a member agency.
The Duluth HRA nominated Xiong for the award and she was notified of her selection May 17 at the chapter’s spring conference in St. Paul. Duluth HRA Executive Director Rick Ball presented Xiong with the scholarship award at the HRA’s board of commissioners meeting May 28.
Xiong recently completed her freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. She volunteers at both the Boys & Girls Club and her school, and also works part-time at Old Navy. Additionally, she is a two-year part participant in the Douglas County Youth Leadership Program.
