What’s open and closed
Thursday is Independence Day. The following offices will be closed:
Closed: Post offices in Duluth and Superior; Duluth and Superior city offices; St. Louis County and Douglas County offices; Minnesota and Wisconsin state offices; Minnesota and Wisconsin federal offices; all Duluth library locations and Superior library; Fond du Lac Reservation tribal offices; and Western Lake Superior Sanitary District facilities.
Open: Duluth Transit Authority and STRIDE services will operate a limited holiday service schedule for regular routes.
Local Independence Day celebrations
Wednesday: Party in the Park with Hairball, 6:30 p.m., Bayfront Festival Park. Gates open at 5 p.m. Tickets: $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Thursday: Lake Nebagamon Independence Day Celebration features old-fashioned children’s games from noon to 3 p.m. beachfront at the auditorium, a parade downtown with time to be determined, a boat parade that begins at Honeymoon Point to the public beach and fireworks at dusk. Cloquet’s Fourth of July features the Sawdust 5K at 8 a.m. and Pool Party from noon to 7 p.m. in Pinehurst Park, parade downtown at 11 a.m. and car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northeastern Saloon, Veterans Park features live music from noon to 5 p.m., dash for cash at 12:30 p.m., the Amazing Charles Magic Show at 7:15 p.m. and the movie “Spiderman” outdoors at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks at 10:10 p.m. Go to visitcloquet.com. Fourth Fest in Duluth features music by the Circuit Breakers, Hobo Nephews of Uncle Frank, Big Wave Dave & The Ripples and The Voice’s Nicholas David. Superior 4th of July Celebration features a parade at 11 a.m. from Superior High School down North 28th Street to Hammond Avenue and ending at Superior Middle School. Superior Singers perform at 1 p.m. at Heritage Park. The annual car show is from 3-7 p.m. along East Fifth Street and features music from The Bugs. Eveleth 4th of July p.m. A parade begins at 9:30 a.m. with children’s games held in Monroe Park after the parade. Brookston's Fourth of July events include a 5K run / walk at 8 a.m. (registration starts 7 a.m.) in front of the Brook Saloon; parade at noon, followed by races and activities at the ballfield; medallion hunt; food vendors and a band; and fireworks at dusk, about 10 p.m. Grand Marais’ Fourth of July features an ice cream social from 6-8 p.m. in First Congregational Church, a parade at 8 p.m. on Wisconsin Street, live music from 8-10 p.m. in Harbor Park and fireworks at dusk over the harbor. Saturday: Lake Nebagamon Kids Dragin’ Tail Run at 8 a.m. and Dragin’ Tail Run at 9 a.m. in Lake Nebagamon. Register at email@example.com. Cornucopia fireworks will be just after dusk with the Cornucopia Club’s annual fish fry from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Town of Bell Town Hall.
