2013 CHUM Rhubarb Festival info and stage show schedule

WHAT: 9th annual CHUM Rhubarb Festival
WHEN: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 29
WHERE: First Lutheran Church Duluth, 11th Ave. East and London Road
WHY: To raise money for CHUM’s food shelves, emergency shelters, drop-in center and employment and housing advocacy
ADMISSION: Free. Funds raised from sales at booths go to CHUM.
9 a.m.: Kids’ run
Children ages 4-6 and 7-10 can meet at the children’s tent on London Road to race 1/8 mile or 1/4 mile around Leif Erikson Park.
9:30 a.m.: Rhubarb blessing
The stage show will kick off with a blessing of rhubarb by all those volunteering at and attending the festival, followed by a blessing song.
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Duluth East Daredevils
The Duluth East Daredevils robotics team, fresh from an appearance at the Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, will be giving demonstrations with the team’s robot.
Noon: Stephanie Madson
Stephanie Madson, a graduate of Duluth East High School’s “Food for Thought” and a Restaurant 301 chef, will give a cooking demonstration and talk about her career in the culinary arts.
TBA: Road Kill Boys
The Road Kill Boys, a band that frequently plays at local venues, will perform its own unique version of bluegrass music.
TBA: Diet Folk
Based in Duluth, the Diet Folk plays homage to both the bluegrass roots of Americana and its contemporary pop surroundings with a blend of music the band calls “Soulgrass.”
1:15 p.m.: Cowboy
Opening for local favorite Charlie Parr is Cowboy, an old-style country band that includes members from the former band Azure du Jour.
2:15 to 4 p.m.: Charlie Parr
To close the festival, Duluth’s own Charlie Parr will play some of his original folk blues and traditional spiritual music. Parr performs throughout the country and will be returning to his hometown for this year’s festival.
