MARLIS JOHNSON LIVINGSTON
Marlis Marlene Johnson Livingston’s battle with cancer ended Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in the comfort of her home.
Marlis was born in Duluth Nov. 23, 1956, to Donald and Margaret Johnson. Marlis’ work was imbued by a dedication to wholesome living, whether it was coordinating the distribution of organic foods or overseeing the Duluth Township’s recycling program. But it was beyond work where Marlis found her greatest sense of meaning and purpose in the raising of her three beloved sons.
Marlis touched everyone she met with her boundless generosity and her uncommon sincerity. To the family and friends that cherished her life, she was a steady presence of unconditional love and understanding. She took great pleasure in gourmet comfort food, warm, intimate gatherings with family and friends, music to dance to or reflect to, and long, winding walks with her beloved dogs, Ruby and Alex.
Marlis is survived by her sons, Matthew of Duluth, Jonathan of Pittsburgh, Pa., and David of Duluth; her sisters, Fran Thomas of Eau Claire, Wis., and Phyllis Pajonk of Duluth; and nephews Shawn Carter of Dallas, Texas, Quinn Carter of New York, N.Y., and Arthur Carter of Dallas.
Marlis’ family would like to thank David Livingston and Connie Ellerman for their steadfast caregiving in her final days.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE: 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Peace United Church of Christ, 1111 N. 11th Ave. East, Duluth. A potluck will follow – please bring a dish to share. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Animal Allies, Peace UCC or CHUM.
