Robert “Bob” Edward Opland, 68, of Duluth passed away on April 21, 2013 in the presence of his loving family.
Robert was born and raised in Duluth’s Lincoln Park neighborhood.
He attended St. Jean-Baptiste Catholic School and Denfeld High School. Bob was a Vietnam veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. He spent many years as a postal carrier and retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Bob had many hobbies and often could be found shooting pool, playing chess or enjoying a variety of sporting events. His quick wit, stories and great jokes were cherished by his many friends and family. Of all things in life, Bob loved his wife, children and grandchildren more than anything in the world.
Bob was welcomed into heaven by his father, Einar; his mother, Florence; and his nephew Brian.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty; his son Robert J. Opland of Fridley, Minn.; daughter, Denise (Tony) Pederson of Otsego, Minn.; son, Mike (Desiree Barbeyto) Opland of Milwaukee, Wis.; daughter, Patricia (Ryan) Goldberg of Duluth; daughter, Leah (Jes) Bittner of Lamberton, Minn.; daughter, Nicole (John Krawza) Opland of Bennett, Wis.; sisters, Judy (James) Blalack and Peggy Opland of Cleveland, Miss.; his nine grandchildren, Keenan, Avery, Owen, Anton, Henry, Isla, Garrett, Cade, and Alyssa; and his many nieces, nephews and friends.
VISITATION: 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service Saturday, April 27, 2013 in Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Duluth.
