A lot of people ate soup this week.
Second Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank raised more than $59,000 at the 29th annual Empty Bowl event at the Depot, where attendees also got to choose a bowl made by volunteers.
Because of this year’s event, Second Harvest will rescue and distribute enough food for 242,000 meals to its 120 area partners and 44,000 people in need. There was a slight increase in community members and students pre-purchasing bowls and an increase in participation in the online and silent auctions this year. The total raised since the event’s start in 1994 is up to more than $817,000.
