The professional nursing program at Lake Superior College has been granted initial accreditation, the college announced on Tuesday.
The recognition, from the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission Inc., is specifically for the professional nursing Associate of Applied Science degree, a Lake Superior College news release said. About 100 students graduate with that degree each year.
The Minnesota Board of Nursing is requiring all nursing programs to obtain national accreditation by 2016, said Deb Amys, the school’s director of nursing.
Lake Superior College is one of 13 two-year colleges in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System to receive the status, the news release said. Accreditation is an ongoing process, with the next site visit scheduled for fall 2017.
